Abstract
Following pollination in the cucumber var. Rollison''s Telegraph tissues of the perianth, stigma, nectary and neck shriveled and dried within a week and a protective periderm formed at the apex of the live ovary tissue. 20 days after full bloom, hardened seed coats contained large ovules. Untreated fruits were similar externally but lacked endosperm and embryo and developed smaller seed coats. When 2% indoleacetic acid in lanolin was applied apically to the cut surface of floral tube and nectary 4 days before full bloom apical tumors were formed. Ovules developed to about 1/2 normal size and seed coats were slightly hardened. When treatments were made at full bloom responses were intermediate.
