Abstract
Eight weeks or more after vaccination, a nondialyzable fraction which inhibited the endogenous respiration of virulent tubercle bacilli was found in homogenates prepared from the lungs of BCG-vaccinated guinea pigs. This fraction also inhibited in virulent tubercle bacilli the increased respiration produced by lactate, pyruvate, and homogenates prepared from the lungs of nonvaccinated guinea pigs. No inhibition of respiration was obtained with sera of vaccinated guinea pigs, nor was there convincing evidence of an inhibitory fraction in the spleen or liver homo-genates.Keywords
