Abstract
A comparative study of the effect of adrenalectomy on parabiotic and single rats was made. Hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell count values of parabiotic rats agreed with those of single rats. Adrenalectomy of 1 partner of parabiotic pairs caused a compensatory hypertrophy of the adrenals of the intact co-partner. A statistically significant difference in heart and thymus weights was found between the parabionts after adrenalectomy of 1 partner. Cardiac output was invariably decreased in adrenalectomized rats, and this decrease was higher in degree in the adrenalectomized parabionts. Keywords
