Abstract
Liver cirrhosis was produced in rats on a low choline, low casein diet with added cystine. Following a diagnostic liver biopsy the rats were treated with choline, a high casein diet, or choline with a high casein diet. Regenerative changes in the liver occurred in the rats on all 3 of the treatment regimes. Evidence of liver cell hyperplasia was present histologically by the 6th day of treatment. By the 14th day there was obvious improvement in the gross appearance of the liver, and microscopic examination showed that there was almost total disappearance of manifest liver cell fat and definite hyper-plastic regeneration of liver parenchyma. The trabecu-lation was still present after 42 days of treatment. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
