Abstract
54 patients with cirrhosis of the liver were treated with a highly nutritious diet supplemented by vit. B concentrates. The clinical course of the patients appeared more favorable than that of a control series of 386. Following the onset of ascites 72% of the treated series, as compared with 57% of the controls, survived 6 mos. At the end of the 1st yr. 57% of the treated series survived but only 39% of the controls. At the end of the 2nd year 45% of the treated series were alive as compared to 21% of the controls. In. a significant number of patients there was also presumptive evidence of arrest of the disease process, disappearance of ascites, edema and jaundice, without recurrence. Changes in the serum albumin and serum globulin, the Takata-Ara test, cephalin flocculation test, and bromsulfalein dye test reflected corresponding improvement. This publication has 14 references indexed in Scilit:
