Volatile Constituents of the Leaves ofPersea gratissimaGaertner. A Source of Methyl Chavicol

Abstract
The essential oil of the leaves of Persea gratissima Gaertner cultivated in Turkey was investigated using GC and GC/MS. Twenty-nine of the thirty-six compounds were identified. The bulk of the oil is represented by methyl chavicol (78%). The content in this allylphenol appears to be higher than that normally found in die tarragon and basil oils.
