Labeling of Rabbit Platelets with Iodine131

Abstract
Rabbit platelets labeled in vitro with I131 were reinjd. into rabbits, and blood samples were withdrawn at intervals after injn. Counts showed rapid disappearance of platelet-bound radioactivity with an accompanying rise in plasma radioactivity. Further studies indicated that centrifugation and washing, rather than iodination, damaged the platelets. Since it is necessary to remove protein to obtain adequate platelet iodination. it does not appear that 1131 can be used for in vivo studies of reinjd. I131-labeled platelets.
