Abstract
In previous investigations we found an increase of D2 dopamine receptors in the striatum of patients with nocturnal myoclonus syndrome (NMS) after treatment with dopamimetics. Under the hypothesis, that, according to animal experiments, the glutamatergic system could be involved in this atypical dopaminergic up-regulation in NMS. The glutamate release inhibitor lamotrigine was tested in up to now two NMS patients. The results and the success of this approach and its implications are discussed. Keywords
