Abstract
Field tests were conducted to determine the effectiveness of sprays of General Chemical 3582 (l-(2,5-dichlorophenyl)-2,2-dichlorvinyl diethyl phosphate) and 4072 (2-chloro-l-(2,4-dichloro-phenyl)vinyl diethyl phosphate) for control of lone star ticks (Amblyomma americanum) and winter ticks (Dermacentor albipictus) on cattle. Against lone star ticks, 3582 afforded initial control, but was less effective at 1 and 2 weeks posttreatment than the standard treatment, 0.5% toxaphene. At 0.5%, 4072 was slightly more effective than the standard in minimizing reinfestation by ticks through 4 weeks; at 01 and 0.25%, it was slightly more effective at 1 day and less effective at 1 week. Against winter ticks, 3582 at 0.1% and 4072 at 0.25 and 0.5% were as effective as 0.5% toxaphene in reducing initial numbers of ticks and preventing reinfestation. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
