Abstract
Thirty-four patients with so-called prostatovesiculitis were examined with respect to the occurrence and the significance of bacteria in prostatic secretion. The findings were correlated with those in specimens from anterior urethra and from urine. In most patients, there was bacterial growth in the prostatic secretion. but in many of them this was probably due to contamination with the normal flora of the anterior urethra. Significant growth of pathogenic bacteria occurred Only in a few patients. it is concluded that the bacterial findings in prostatic secretion must always be correlated with the urethral flora and the possible occurrence of bacteriuria. Therefore, the bacteriologic examination of patients with prostatn-vesiculitis should include investigation of the urethral flora, the prostatic secretion. and the urine. This publication has 10 references indexed in Scilit:
