Abstract
Inoculation of colonies of honeybees with heated spores of B. larvae and cultural studies of the spores show that the virulence of the spores (ability to infect honeybee larvae) is destroyed by heating much sooner than is their viability (ability to grow in culture). The most highly virulent spores appear to be quickly destroyed by heating. Spores that are highly resistant to heating are probably not virulent since they are unable to germinate before larvae pass their susceptible age.
