Abstract
Presentation of CaseA 63-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of left facial weakness and hypercalcemia.There was a long history of hypertension, which was treated with clonidine and chlorthalidone. Five months before admission she began to experience progressive back pain, weakness, polyuria, and polydipsia, and she lost 7 kg in weight. She was seen at another hospital, where x-ray films of the lumbosacral spine showed degenerative arthritic changes in the posterior portions of the L5–S1 interspace; the vertebral bodies appeared normal otherwise, and the sacroiliac joints were normal.
