Abstract
Experiment has confirmed the theoretical prediction that extinction contours in the electron microscope image of single-crystal metal films should be associated with enhanced x-ray emission. An instrument combining the facilities of an electron microscope and x-ray scanning micro-analyser has been used to produce images of a 200 Å single-crystal gold film which demonstrate this correlation. Increased backscattering of low energy electrons was also observed from these regions. Keywords
