Abstract
Adelacerithiinae is proposed for the Pliocene Adelacerithium merulatum Ludbrook, 1941, from Abattoirs Bore, South Australia, and the Recent A. mirabilis n.sp., from off northern New Zealand, Adelacerithium species have a dextral cerithiform shell, distinctive shell sculpture, a columellar plait, and rhinioglossate dentition with reversed radular cross-row configuration. Relationships between the major triphorid groups and the possibilities for common origin for the Triphoroidea, Ccrithiopsoidea, Cerithioidea, and the Neogastropods are discussed.
