Abstract
The utilization and assimilation of sucrose and acetate in a N-free medium by T. utilis has been studied. The rate of sucrose utilization was not affected by the hydrogen ion concentration between pH 3 and 8. Acetate utilization was found to be more pH sensitive. The rate of acetate utilization was greatest between pH 5 and 6. A major part of the assimilated substrate appeared to be converted to neutral fat and easily hydrolyzable carbohydrate. Assimilated radioactive acetate was found to be converted to constituents that did not equilibrate extensively with intermediates of the sucrose oxidation pathway. Keywords
