Abstract
Ovar-iectomized rabbits were injd. with radioactive P(HPO4) 24 hrs. after the last of 6 daily injns. of 90 [mu]g. of estradiol benzoate; in some cases 0.8 mg. of progesterone was also injd. for the last 3 days. An uninjd. group served as controls. Endometrium was analyzed for inorganic, Cl3CCOOH-soluble, and 1 N HC1-hydrolyzable P, and the fractions counted as MgNH4PO4 with a Geiger-Mueller counter. Inorganic P in estrogen-treated and castrate were similar; estrogen + progesterone-treated animals had higher specific activity. Cl3CCOOH-soluble P reached an earlier peak in the estrogen-treated animals than in those with progesterone, but the latter had more sustained activity. No detectable activity was seen in this fraction in the untreated group. HCl-hydrolyzable P acted like inorganic P. Phosphorylation in the endometrium is slow in ovariectomized rabbits, and is accelerated by estrogens or progesterone. Keywords
