Abstract
Synopsis: The waters and coastal margins of the estuary and Firth of Forth are important and very valuable biological and recreational resources. They also receive, directly or indirectly, the aqueous domestic and industrial wastes of a quarter of the population of Scotland. It is one task of the Forth River Purification Board to minimise and eventually eliminate any conflict between the effects of these discharges and the various legitimate uses of the waters. Some of the main causes of environmental stress are briefly outlined and the basic strategy by which the problems will be overcome is described. This publication has 14 references indexed in Scilit:
