Abstract
The essential chick growth factor present in sardine fish meal and condensed fish solubles was soluble in 75% acetone and in 80% ethanol. It was insoluble in n-butanol. The factor was adsorbed by Darco G-60 at pH 3.0 from a water solution of an alcoholic extract of sardine fish meal or condensed fish solubles, but not adsorbed from an 80% ethanol solution of the same extract. Elution of the factor from Darco G-60 can be accomplished with 10% ammonium hydroxide in 95% ethanol with about 20% loss of activity. The factor was colorless in solution. Keywords
