Abstract
The spin polarisation has been measured of electrons which-at incident energies between 10 and 20 eV-have been scattered inelastically from mercury atoms. By comparing the results for the 61P1 channel with those for the 63P0.1 and 63P2 channels it is found that a large amount of polarisation in the triplet channels must be due to the combined effect of exchange and fine-structure interaction. Keywords
