Abstract
Two excellent electron photomicrographs are presented to show that the conversion of bacterial protoplasm into bacteriophage gives rise to a symmetrical pattern of small concavities observable on the surface of the bacteria, and throughout extruded protoplasm. Sometimes a small particle is seen in the concavities which might be the new bacteriophage. The concavities have been observed in several strains of colon bacillus, but bacteria, attacked by "tailed" bacteriophages never gave this effect.
