Abstract
It is shown that the scaling theory developed by Schneider, Waynert, Levy, and Maki is incorrectly based on a result given by Eilenberger, giving a fluctuation contribution of the wrong sign and magnitude. When corrected, the resulting theory is equivalent to the theory introduced earlier by Thouless. The transition widths reported by Schneider, Waynert, Levy, and Maki from measurements of the attenuation of sound near in vanadium are shown to be much larger than those expected from fluctuations.
