Averaged Evoked Responses for Measuring Auditory Sensitivity in Children

Abstract
EEA [electroencephalic audiometry] was used to test 70 children, aged 2 months through 13 years, using averaged evoked responses. The waveform obtained on these children was similar to that of adults except for a tendency toward larger amplitudes and longer latencies. Twenty-four children were sedated with Nembutal, or Nembutal and Pentothal during the test. The remainder were either awake or in natural sleep. Nembutal alone showed no detrimental effects on the averaged evoked response, but Pentothal often made the records difficult to analyze.
