Abstract
Several methods are described for preparing suspensions of buffy coat-poor red cells for transfusion to patients having recurrent febrile transfusion reactions caused by sensitivity to buffy coat. Clinical trials using a centrifugation method (6 transfusions) and a dextran sedimentation method (50 transfusions) are reported. The use of suspensions of buffy coat-poor red cells has proved to be of great value in the transfusion therapy of buffy coat-sensitive patients. Keywords
