Abstract
CEREBRAL dysfunction is occasionally encountered during the course of hemodialysis. A cause of these symptoms is the dialysis disequilibrium syndrome, which may be manifested by confusion, headache, hypertension, convulsions, coma and even death.1 Confusion, lethargy and coma followed by death have also been reported2 to result from hemodialysis with a high glucose concentration in the dialysis bath, with consequent extreme hyperglycemia and hyperosmolality. This report details a third cause of cerebral symptoms after hemodialysis – that of hypoglycemia.Case ReportE.S. (W.C.G.H. 332485), a 33-year-old man with renal failure secondary to chronic glomerulonephritis, was started on hemodialysis, with the use . . .Keywords
