Abstract
Certain visual tasks require easy discrimination among colors differing only slightly. Much of human color experience involves this problem to a degree. Given an array of colored objects, discrimination among them depends on the illuminant; both its color and spectral power distribution are important. What appear to be optimum color and spectral power distribution have been found, and the capabilities of fluorescent lamps approaching this ideal are described and demonstrated. Keywords
