Abstract
The renal tubular reabsorption of Na and K was studied in 6 unanesthetized dogs in 28 expts. comprising 129 clearance periods during the intraven. infusion of solns. of the corresponding chloride salts. The percentage of filtered Na which is reabsorbed by the tubules is functionally related to the serum Na concn. The percentage of filtered K which is reabsorbed by the tubules and the rate of excretion of K are closely related to the rate of filtration of K. The infusion of hypertonic NaCl depresses the fractional tubular reabsorption of K in excess of that ascribable to the simultaneous increase of the K filtered load. The infusion of KCl soln. depresses the tubular reabsorption of Na at normal serum Na concns. Keywords
