Measurements-induced dynamics of a micromaser

Abstract
Repeated measurements of the atomic inversion are incorporated in the theory of the micromaser. Two examples of measurements-induced dynamics are presented which display (a) quantum diffusion above a potential barrier and (b) an instability in the form of quantum-mechanical relaxation oscillations. Implications of these results on the study of the quantum-classical interface are briefly discussed.Keywords
