Abstract
Infrared spectra were obtained of single crystals of various rotamers of a series of halogenated ethanes. The spectrum of the trans rotamer of 1,1,2,2‐tetrachloroethane is reported for the first time. P—V—T relationships of rotamers are more complex than was expected, with both polymorphism and solid—solid phase transitions involved. A new technique for measuring compressibilities at high pressure is described. This technique is used to demonstrate a solidification at constant volume and a solid—liquid equilibrium over a considerable range of pressure. Keywords
