Maps and models

Abstract
This article looks at the similarities between maps and models in the way they represent knowledge. Models may be useful to occupational therapists as they may enable, empower and emancipate them. The use of models has limited, rather than encouraged, discussion and debate about the philosophy of practice. Using models as route maps for practice, rather than as speculative illustrations, may impede the development of professional knowledge and understanding.
