Abstract
Electromechanical solid state devices are currently being actively investigated. Very recently, three new types of ceramic actuators have been under development: 1) digital displacement transducers or shape-memory ceramics, 2) monomorph actuators, and 3) photostrictive devices. These devices are reviewed with particular emphasis on the initial processes of the discovery. Keywords
