Abstract
Two patients with chronic myeloid leukemia who received maintainance busulfan therapy for 6 and 7 years are presented. Both patients demonstrated diffuse pulmonary interstitial fibrosis secondary, most likely, to the therapy. In addition, less devastating effects of the drug, such as hyperpigmentation, amenorrhea with early menopause, and an adrenal-insufficiency-like syndrome are discussed. The use of busulfan during pregnancy is mentioned along with a discussion of potential harm to fetal gonads. Although interstitial fibrosis secondary to busulfan is extremely uncommon, this report brings the total to 6 cases, and all those who use busulfan should be aware of this potential association. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
