Abstract
Thirty-seven basal metabolism measurements on humans are reported along with 112 observations taken during exposure to cold. A critical study of the apparent respiratory quotients obtained, clearly indicates that exposure to cold does not favor any preferential oxidation of carbohydrate. Depletion of the glycogen stores is, therefore, merely associated with, and proportional to, the increased total metabolism. Keywords
