Abstract
We report the first direct observation of the strange baryon . We reconstruct the decay , with , and in collisions at . Using of data collected by the D0 detector, we observe candidates at a mass of . The significance of the observed signal is , equivalent to a probability of of it arising from a background fluctuation. Normalizing to the decay , we measure the relative rate .
