Abstract
Toxin prepared by growth of Salmonella typhi-murium in medium containing citrate and dextrose, killed with 2% phenol, dialyzed in cellulose tubing against water and ppt. in 80% acetone was injd. intraperit. into >$ mice. 1.3 mg. killed 50% of the animals in 24 hrs. (min. lethal dose). Sulfanilamide given by stomach tube simultaneously with intraperit. dose of toxin gave almost complete protection against 2 MLD and 33% protection against 10 MLD. Sulfathiazole and sulfapyridine were less effective. Preliminary administration of sulfanilamide increased its protection. Subcut. injns. of p-aminobenzoic acid reduced action of the sulfanilamide. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
