Abstract
Absolute transition probabilities for the 18 transitions of the transition array of neutral carbon have been studied in emission with a wall-stabilized arc. Values are given for ten individual lines and one pair of strongly blended lines (476.23 and 476.25 nm). An upper bound is set for the remaining six lines of the array which were too weak to be observed in this work. An important feature of this work is the use of digital least-squares-fitting techniques to separate overlapping lines and to provide accurate line-wing corrections. Problems associated with demixing effects have been avoided by normalizing relative transition probability measurements to an absolute scale set by atomic lifetimes.
