Neurosurgical Experiences with Diabetes Insipidus

Abstract
Lesions of the hypothalamohypophyseal system produced diabetes insipidus. The most common cause of diabetes insipidus is trauma, while tumor in the region of the third ventricle may cause it. Following a craniocerebral injury, diabetes insipidus usually manifests itself after a latent period of 1 to 2 weeks. Although many cases recover spontaneously, some do not. The syndrome may be due to injury to the pituitary stalk or to hemorrhage in the neurohypophysis. The most effective therapy is the parenteral administration of antidiuretic hormone.
