Abstract
Noether's theorem in the calculus of variations is extended to the case of a lagrangian density containing higher order derivatives. It is then demonstrated how some recently given results of generalized mechanics can be seen as consequences of conservation equations resulting from the extended version of Noether's theorem. Keywords
