Abstract
IN 1942 Janeway1 summarized the developments in the field of sulfonamide therapy since its introduction in 1936. Since then, the management of a great many of the infectious diseases has been completely revolutionized by the introduction of highly active antibiotics. Experience over the past fifteen years has made it quite evident, however, that the sulfonamides continue to occupy an important, although relatively small, place in the therapeutic armamentarium of the physician and, in some cases, are more effective than other antibacterial drugs.
