Abstract
The nature and extent of participation of catabolic pathways of glucose in Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Bacillus subtilis, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium digitatum, Penicillium chrysogenum, Streptomyces griseus, Pseudomonas saccharophila, and Pseudomonas reptilivora were examined by the radiorespirometric method which measures the respiratory function of an organism in terms of C14O2 production by cells metabolizing specifically labeled C14 substrates. Close resemblances were observed with respect to basic glucose catabolism in E. coli, and S. cerevisiae, in two pseudomonads, and among A. niger, S. griseus and two Penicillium species. The apparatus and procedures employed for the radiorespiro-metric experiments are described. Keywords
