Abstract
A description of the classical Drude-Zener theory of the dielectric constant and conductivity of a conductor is given, with particular reference to germanium and other semiconductors. The degree of agreement between theory and experiment is indicated. Methods whereby the conductivity of a semiconductor may be modulated and the application of these techniques to the study of the optical and microwave properties of semiconductors are described. Keywords
