Abstract
An alternative scenario for the onset of spatiotemporal chaos in one-dimensional extended systems arising from a phase instability of a Turing-Hopf mixed mode is presented. This mechanism leads to weak and defect turbulences. The transition between these two is either continuous or hysteretic, depending on the values of the parameters. Keywords
