Abstract
The results of a path integral variational calculation of the ground state energy of a positron interacting with the phonons of a metal are presented. These results indicate that lowest-order perturbation theory gives a good approximation to the positron-phonon self energy in a metal, implying that vertex corrections are unnecessary. Keywords
