Abstract
Patients (87) with septic arthritis are described. Of 33 with gonococcal arthritis, 31 were women. Twenty were between the ages of 20-29 yr. The wrist was involved most often. Culture of synovial fluid was positive for Neisseria gonorrhoeae in 11. Fifty-four patients had non-gonococcal arthritis, and of these patients, 40 were men. Mean age was 38 yr. Staphylococcus aureus was the most common organism cultured. The knee was the most frequently involved. Treatment with i.v. antibiotics and aspiration was usually successful. This publication has 10 references indexed in Scilit:
