Abstract
Surprisingly, toluene solutions of certain tetrahalogenobenzene dimethanols rapidly afford the corresponding hydroxymethyl tetrahalogenobenzyl bromides in about 90% yield on treatment with hydrobromic acid without the need for continuous removal of the first formed product.Keywords
