Abstract
The Rayleigh-Brillouin spectra of He, Ne, and Ar are reported for the hydrodynamic region. The experiments show that light scattering may be used to determine thermodynamic and transport properties of gases as a function of density and thus provide another method of probing intermolecular potentials. In addition, the transition from the hydrodynamic to the kinetic regime is examined in terms of generalized hydrodynamics.Keywords
