Abstract
Subcutaneous assays of corticotropin A against a corticotropin A laboratory standard preparation were in agreement with the requirements of valid biological assays. The application of a cross-over design together with the use of a corticotropin A standard preparation decreased the number of animals needed to obtain a given accuracy of the log potency ratio determination to about 1/3 of the number of rats used previously. It is suggested that the subcutaneous method of corticotropin assay is suitable when the hormone is to be administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly in clinical treatment.
