Abstract
The dilatational component of the stress field in the neighbourhood of a dislocation kink or jog is calculated from the displacements of angular dislocations derived by Yoffe. It is found that the dilatation near a typical kink in a screw dislocation is about 10% that near an infinite edge dislocation. The dilatation of a kinked or jogged edge dislocation along a line parallel to the dislocation varies essentially monotonically in the vicinity of the kink or jog. The application of these results to the interaction between solute atoms and kinks or jogs is discussed. Keywords
