Experimental Acute Pancreatitis in Dogs

Abstract
The relationship between the phospholipase A activity in exudate collected from dogs during experimental acute pancreatitis and the ability of the exudate to cause histamine release and hypotension have been studied. Evidence indicating that the hypotensive effect of the exudate is due to histamine release has been presented. Phospholipase A alone cannot be responsible for these effects. Neither can cholates nor lysophosphatidyl choline present in the exudate. The histamine-releasing effect of the exudate is unaffected by inhibitors of known histamine-releasing agents. The histamine-releasing agent of the exudate is of a large molecular weight and appears to be different from previously reported histamine-releasing agents.Keywords
