AUGMENTATION OF CHORIONIC GONADOTROPHIN BY COLLOIDS

Abstract
Hydrophilic colloids increase the effectiveness of a single injn. of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in causing cornification of vaginal epithelium of immature rats. Most effective were carrageen and tragacanth. These substances also reduce urinary excretion of HCG after injn. The effect is therefore probably due to a reduced rate of absorption of the hormone from the injn.site.
