Abstract
The quantitative urinary excretion of the adrenal corticoid metabolites, THF (3alpha, llbeta, 17alpha, 21-tetrahydroxypregnan-20-one) and THE (3alpha, 17 alpha, 21-trihydroxypregnan-ll,20-dione) is reported in 2 representative patients; the first in a normal male before and after the intravenous administration of 25 units of ACTH, the second in a young male undergoing a mild surgical stress. Employing paper chromatographic techniques it was found that the administration of ACTH or "operative stress" results in a decrease in the relative proportions of THE to THF. The proportion of THE to THF increases after the removal of ACTH or stress. Keywords
